how does it work? what do i have to do in sessions?

Therapy is a uniquely individual experience, based on what you are seeking counseling for and what you hope to gain from it. I tailor my approach to you, your goals, and needs.

what's the difference between talking to you and my friends or family?

Although support systems are very beneficial, talking to a mental health professional rather than a friend or family member allows you to approach situations in a new way. A counselor is prepared with training, education, and experience that will help you learn new skills, reframe situations, see new perspectives, and guide you in learning to know yourself better. Therapy is also completely confidential; not only will you be able to speak without fear of judgment or expectations, you won’t have to worry about anyone knowing what you share in session.

how long will i go to counseling?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique - so it isn’t possible to answer how long you will attend therapy in an FAQ section. The length of therapy depends on many factors, including your goals, commitment, and reason you are seeking out therapy in the first place.
